Some Magic to Start the New Year

We’re already 9 days in a new year, 2024, it sounds crazy, doesn’t it? When I was a kid this number was only possible in a science-fiction movie, and now we’re living it! I hope it will be a year where we choose the path of peace amids the chaos of war and violence. Let it be a year of reverance, love and compassion for the environment and nature. For the dwellers of this earth: its people, animals, forests, mountains, oceans and seas!

Talking about reverance and love. The last days of 2023 I was immersed in reverance and love for this island. First Dorus and I were invited to visit the Fundación Vida Silvestre Mediterránea (FVSM) with a group of people who adopted a black vulture, an endangered species, especially on Mallorca. We’re also part of this group ‘Amics dels Voltors‘ which means Friends of the Vultures. We went on a trip to the breeding site located at a fascinating property in the north of the Serra de Tramuntana, Mallorca’s dreamy mountain range.

I wrote a piece (in Dutch) about this special visit for Reporters Online. The Dutchies can read it here:

After that day we stayed a few days in the Serra de Tramuntana and cycled to different places: the monastery of Lluc where we stayed the night.

Room with a view
Santuari de Lluc

Another night in Port de Sóller.

Tram Sóller to Port de Sóller

And next day to Deià.

Deià

Lots of climbing and descending (the best part!)

Discovered some new roads.

Attention: hot cyclist on the road!

To cycle in these mountains is like being in another world. It’s hard sometimes, but a feast for your head feeling gooood due to the release of serotonin and endorphins. Especially when you struggle your way up in an environment so glorious the reward is worth it.

No cars! Normally the roads aren’t car-free like this

And of course you need fuel to keep you going and get you home. This got me home as I got no energy left to cycle the last 25 km to Algaida. A fuel stop to have the best cake of Mallorca in Santa Maria del Camí.

Almond chocolate cake. Glutenfree, not vegan. Of course with a café Americano

Here’s to Magic! 🌟

Con Amor,

Eva
